Inclusion Team

The inclusion team is a group of children led by Mrs Miller who work together to help promote inclusion and make everyone feel welcome.

They take part in activities such as leading assemblies and working on different projects, including working with Ravenscliffe High School. One example of this is gardening projects . The aim of the inclusion team is to bring people together, support each other, and make sure everyone feels included and valued in school life.

Assemblies

The Inclusion Team plan and deliver assemblies on different topics.
They aim to do 3 assemblies a year. We have had the pleasure of the DFN Project Search Interns delivering an assembly with us.

Some assemblies we have covered are:

  • Introducing the Inclusion Team
  • Introducing DFN Project Search
  • World Downsyndrome Day
  • Our differences and respecting others
  • Autism and ADHD
Their next big focus is 'Deaf Awareness Week' w/b 5th May.
Here are some pictures of the Inclusion Team and DFN Project Search delivering their assemblies.

Our links with others

Highbury Hub

The Highbury Hub at Copley Primary School is for pupils who are registered at Highbury Specialist School but attend the Hub situated in Copley Primary School. Two children from the Hub form part of our Inclusion Team. Mrs Miller works closely with the staff in the Hub. We have taken pupils to visit Highbury School and this is something that is continuing to develop.

DFN Project Search

Our Inclusion Team is working with DFN Project Search, a group of young adults with learning disabilities and/or autism who are interns based at the hospital - which is run by Calderdale College. DFN Project Search is a project to help young adults with employment.

We are working closely with this group to forge community links and to improve awareness of inclusion.

One of our goals is to have some young adults working here as interns.

Ravenscliffe

We have been working with Ravenscliffe's for the last 2 years - Ravenscliffe is a Specialist High School. We go to Ravenscliffe to help with their gardening, and in return they come to us and help us. This has developed and now includes our school gardening club and Mr Coneron.

Their next visit to Copley Primary is on the 17th April. We also have an annual 'Sweet Pea Growing Competition' between the two schools - I wonder who will win this year!
