At Copley Primary School, we believe that a high-quality history education should provide opportunities for pupils to gain a coherent knowledge and understanding of Britain’s past and that of the wider world. It engages, inspires and challenges pupils, equipping them with the knowledge, skills and understanding to analyse, appraise and critically evaluate historical events, people and periods.
Pupils make progress in history by developing:
- their knowledge about the past
- their knowledge about how historians investigate the past, and how they construct historical claims, arguments and accounts
We have designed our curriculum by using the latest research, theory and the experience of academics and practising history teachers. The yearly overview is as follows.
EYFS have been working closely with Historic England. The children looked at St Stephen's Church, Copley Bridge and Railway Terrace. Over the next few weeks, we will be learning more about our local area.
